UK’s £54M Global Talent visa scheme reels in just 18 researchers

The UK’s Global Talent visa program, launched to attract top scientists dissatisfied with the political climate in the US, has recruited only 18 researchers so far. The £54 million scheme recently added ten new hires working on AI energy systems and life sciences, joining eight previously announced recruits. All 12 participating research organizations have now filled positions, and UKRI is expanding the fast-track visa route to cover roughly 100 R&D-intensive businesses across advanced manufacturing and digital technology sectors.
