Microsoft Discovery Goes GA on Azure, Powering Majorana 2 Quantum Chip with Agentic AI
Microsoft has made its Discovery platform generally available on Azure, offering organizations autonomous AI agent teams for scientific and engineering R&D. The platform orchestrates specialized agents to reason over knowledge bases, generate hypotheses, optimize experiments, and validate results with built-in confidence scoring and citations. Microsoft also unveiled the Majorana 2 topological quantum chip, whose 1,000-fold reliability improvement over its predecessor was achieved using Discovery’s agentic AI to automate fabrication, measurements, and materials optimization. The breakthrough pushes Microsoft’s timeline for a scalable quantum computer forward to 2029, and the platform is already in use by research institutions like Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
