The Trump administration has agreed to pay German energy company RWE $1.2bn to abandon its US offshore wind projects, with the firm planning to reinvest the sum into conventional gas projects including a $900m LNG export terminal in Louisiana. RWE will relinquish leases off California, Louisiana, and the New York Bight, citing no viable permitting path under the current administration. The deal follows similar agreements with TotalEnergies and Duke Energy as Trump continues his push to halt offshore wind in favor of fossil fuel expansion.
