Google shuffles AI deck chairs while sailing toward the singularity

Google announced major leadership changes at Google DeepMind. Demis Hassabis is stepping back from day-to-day operations to become Chair of GDM and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, focusing on AGI strategy and his work at Isomorphic Labs. Koray Kavukcuoglu, currently CTO of GDM, will become SVP of Google DeepMind overseeing Gemini model development, frontier research, and the Gemini app. Meanwhile, Jeff Dean and Sanjay Ghemawat are leaving after a combined decades-long tenure to launch an independent public benefit corporation focused on ML and science discoveries, with Google as a founding investor. The Gemini app has reportedly reached 950M+ monthly users.
