Chrome's HTML-in-canvas experiment may end the web's document era

Chrome is experimenting with HTML-in-canvas, a feature that renders ordinary HTML inside WebGL and WebGPU environments while preserving DOM semantics, accessibility, and searchability. This removes the traditional compromise where richer web experiences sacrificed crawlability and browser-native functionality. The author argues that as AI systems increasingly consume structured data directly, the human-facing web no longer needs to be trapped in documents, pages, and vertical scrolling, opening the door to a more experiential and weirdly human internet.
