AI-Doctored Evidence Fuels £233M UK Motor Insurance Fraud Surge
UK insurer Aviva identified more than 18,400 fraudulent claims in 2025 supported by AI-doctored evidence, including fabricated accident scenes, fake official documents, and inflated damage reports. The scam attempts, totaling £233 million, mark a shift from staged crashes to AI-generated exaggerations and wholly invented incidents. Motor insurance fraud values jumped 39 percent, while liability fraud rose 32 percent, aided by rogue professionals. Aviva is countering with its own AI-driven detection tools and advanced analytics to spot suspicious claims and shield honest customers from higher premiums.
