Perplexity Open-Sources Numbat: Because Your AI Agents Were Getting a Little Too Comfortable
Numbat is an open-source tool from Perplexity AI that provides endpoint visibility into AI agent activity across desktop, CLI, IDE, and gateway agents. It uses local hooks, plugins, and OTLP/HTTP logs to normalize live and at-rest activity into a unified event model evaluated by a CEL rule engine. Features include local detection with built-in and custom rules, opt-in pre-action blocking (disabled by default), forensic reconstruction from on-disk session artifacts without prior instrumentation, and read-only artifact scanning with secret redaction. Distributed as a single binary for macOS, Linux, and Windows.
