Meta pushes for contempt ruling against NSO Group over fresh WhatsApp phishing

Meta has asked a federal judge to hold NSO Group in contempt after detecting new social engineering attacks against WhatsApp users, despite a permanent injunction barring the Israeli spyware maker from targeting the platform. The alleged activity involved malicious links and fake accounts designed to lure victims off-platform, occurring after a 2025 court verdict that found NSO liable for hacking WhatsApp. Meta says the campaign shows commercial spyware vendors will ignore legal consequences, and warned that easing restrictions on NSO would undermine national security and endanger billions of users.
