Meta's New Deal: Your Data for Our Discount, and Suddenly It's a Barter Economy
Meta's new Muse Code coding agent introduces a two-tier pricing model: standard rates, or a steep discount (up to 75x cheaper on cached input tokens) if users opt-in to share feedback and data for model improvement. This positions Meta to undercut frontier-model incumbents like OpenAI and Anthropic, who are under pressure to improve margins ahead of potential IPOs. The strategy also reframes the data-privacy debate: instead of customers paying to give away their data, Meta is effectively paying them for it. Whether this forces competitors to match remains an open question.
